advice – covering the ground with compost (or spent hops) then a membrane, and planting through this. I've tried something similar in the past myself, and it really helps smother and kill problem weeds, and prevents more annual ones germinating. I think by Baloo66

i have one in mine garden with a combination wit peony's and tree peony's hope it will work as i planned it because the big flower of the peony's and the little flowers of the verbena will contrast (srry for my english i am from holland) I have by jrsniece

Garden arches planting - help needed
in early spring, so they're not there all year round. Passion flowers climb well nad stay green all year round (with luck). Perennial sweet peas are another option but the vanish completely in the winter. You could also grow annual climbers like nasturtiums by trish beebe

What's loving all this rain?
. Most of my perennials look good, but the annuals I use for infilling are not in full flower as yet, just the odd bloom. We have had 2 relatively dry days with some sun so perhaps that will encourage them to get a move on. Vegetables not so good by Leggi

I've been delightedly surprised by the poppy red colour on the leaves of my red hammamelis which I did not expect as I bought it for the scent from the flowers early in the spring. An amelanchier is on my wish as it looks great in blossom by happymarion

Long, thin, narrow strip to plant up...
? ...not much to see...full of snow, Hollie...fab idea to paint it dark brown! let's see if I can add this picture..   Dark brown fences with white flowers go well ! Could you alter bed shape , mine all curve around the garden so some beds slightly deeper by Wildcosmos

Ideas for back garden design-without lawn!
which basically has weeds growing through it and seems to have rocks/bricks thrown is (I can't seem to dig through it to plant anything in any case). I would like to have a one foot wide flower bed to the left of the garden along the fence and get rid by NotSoGreenFingered
