gravel bed/border ... replace with bark?
, if well chosen, will cover the soil and supress weeds and look beautiful.  You can use annuals as fillers while they get established. I wouldn't use any membrane there at all. That gravel?  Is it limestone gravel? If so it is alkaline.  I would remove by djjjuk

Help please - what can I plant?
weeds away to plus they will come back next season even better hope this helps. If the soil is poor why not try some wild flower plants such as you would find in the wild flower meadows. Try an annual seed mix for quick results this year and add plug by lesleyw

Help with creating new border
that in another area but the grass ended up just growing back in between the bulbs.... Did you actually remove the turf or just dig it in? Creating a border is not difficult but you have to pull out any weeds and keep on top of it  The method you describe just by Sue6

Weeds in compost bin?
could be waiting a jolly long time for a compost bin to heat up...and besides, most bins are just too small and skinny to generate an internal heat. I may put the odd annual weed in the compost but never a perennial. The "secret" of heat in the compost by LavenderLois

Talkback: Removing weeds
't and the majority of dandelion seedheads just blow in from these verges. It then takes me hours to dig them all up, both from the lawn and flower beds, meaning that I inevitably also dig some of my own planting as I believe in soil coverage to keep annual weeds by Elizabeth Bellis-Sheldon
