Talkback: The no-dig method
advice – covering the ground with compost (or spent hops) then a membrane, and planting through this. I've tried something similar in the past myself, and it really helps smother and kill problem weeds, and prevents more annual ones germinating. I think by Baloo66

what are these?
- totally insignificant so I pull them up as a weed.  Don't know what the second one is, as others say, it looks like sweet william and even if it does turn out to be a weed it looks like an annual that will pull up  easily. by Lorea

Forget me nots
didn't want and ants seemed to like living in the roots of these, so now I pull them up when over and weed out any I'm not sure about. They are very hardy. I just let them get on with it now like a lot of other annuals/biennials. I do agree with B by Sam Glendinning

Weird cavity wall flower bed problem
weeds. I've been her 2 years and left some of the original plants and added geraniums and a fushia. Last year I put some saxifrage in the thin border and that's looking good. The whole thing is very weedy and I'm thinking of putting new compost by Blueboots
