Is it still ok to feed dried fruit to birds bearing in mind the young
 dried fruit would be as bad.  Have you tried soaking it a bit before chopping in the processor? I find the parents come and fill their tums at our fat ball, peanut and loose seed feeders and that gives them the energy to hoover all the aphids and caterpillars by Lavender Lady

Sue, you know, you're right, they are attractive. I think it is the rather more (sorry, but....) maggoty looking larvae that let them down because unless you see one actually gulping down aphids, they really look both rather unattractive and rather by Sue Raspin

Black critters
and have found clumps of black critters on my nasturtiums, how can I get rid of them?? Bee friendly, these are, as jude says, blackfly; these are members of the aphid family. You can get rid of them using 'Pravado'. This is a systemic spray and won't harm by Bee friendly

Conifer Trouble
/leaves,which have sudsequently died.I have cut the branches back but I am unsure of the reasons why this has happened.Any advice would be most welcome. Cypress aphid can cause this. The RHS has a section on their website about brown patches on conifers. Areas by parker2
