Tulips
level, going to full colour and just staying hunkered down in the leaves. The 'normal' mixed colour tulips in the garden - about 40 bulbs planted 2 years ago which give a great display have disappeared.  Not a single one has come up.  I don't lift them by Judith2

the colour). The reason why the leaves of trees go red in Autumn is because they are returning various nutrients (which help give the leaves a green colour) back to their roots. Maybe there's something similar going on, but that's just wild speculation. You by mcthedad

Plant suggestions please
and stunning yellow flowers to tie into the yellow on the Apollo. Asters towards the front to give colour and contrast in flower shape and Autumn interest. Astrantia maxima towards the front to tie into the colours of the Bergenia and and Geranium Sambor by auntie betty

water edging plants
well about 1 foot away from the water.  I intend to split more hostas in the autumn as they are getting ratehr large in the rest of the garden and free plants are the best! Could I get some recommendations for other edging plants that will beat by Maderense

flowers. Bunny, I prune now varieties like Gold flame, Anthony waterer etc......the small shrubby ones....right down to the ground now. Actually mine are always done in autumn. Then again after flowering. However, on the yellow/orange foliage ones I do by Bunny..

if you choose the right variety. Bunny, if you don't mind using biennials or short lived plants, you can buy plug plants of forget- me- nots, bellis daisies, violas, primroses etc in autumn, plant them then up they come in late spring putting colour by Bunny..

for any adv ice, Maggie I would suggest an Amelanchier,  Maggie Pam x North facing aspect may be a problem but try either a laburnum vossii or perhaps one of the smaller varieties of crab apple.  Nice leaf colour on some varieties in spring and autumn by staffsmags

worth buying primroses now?
in south wales and they seem to love it.  What sort of soil do you have and where are you? My Primroses have provided colour and put a smile on my face through out this long bitter winter, the have bloomed continuously for nearly five months in a long row by djjjuk
