Pound shop plants- any success stories?
I recently bought a 99p bare root climbing rose from our local pound shop. I mainly bought it because it was a sorry specimen in need of light. I have planted it in a south facing bed and am keen to see if it survives. Has anyone else bought a by Surbiton_Margot

afraid that when it comes to advice about veg growing, I am probably not really the best person to ask. I am new to veg growing, but my observations of what hinders others are that very often the bed size is too big to be manageable. To me a 4' wide bed by eddie jefferies

Talkback: Rich pickings
Hi, I myself was a new allotment gardener last year, and I would agree with all the advice given, but I would advise against a rotavator. I found when I used one on one bed weeds like dock and buttercup have been coming up everywhere! As you know by Lauren W

and evening during the winter. This, of course, creates a great deal of wood ash. Can some one please advise me how much is safe to put on my veg beds. What a lot of questions...Carol: Best to mix the ash into your compost heap rather than spreading too much by chilipops

Talkback: Gardening for bats
(11 years). Our lounge is at the back of the house so we get a daily display from the comfort of my sofa. It is great to watch them flying over my pond and garden. Saw some fabulous bats on holiday last week in Jersey, at Gerald Durrell's wildlife park by nashonii@gmail.com

Talkback: Hostas, slugs and snails
I thank my lucky stars that we really don't have a slug or snail problem so my hosta's always put on a fab display. I think encouraging the birds into the garden helps us. I have grown great hostas in pots for four years now with no slug problems by N Freeland.Somerset
