Talkback: Bees and bee flies
And there was I thinking my ivy arbour over my old pear tree was just for the blackbirds. Thank you, Richard, for great blog on bees. I can't wait for this wind to die down to get out and do some voyeuring among the ivy. Really interesting by happymarion

Bee news from The Beeb, Eu Ban pesticide
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22335520 The European Commission will restrict the use of pesticides linked to bee deaths by researchers, despite a split among EU states on the issue. There is great concern across Europe about the collapse by blackest

Plan bee
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-18194778 Just read this article on reintroducing a bumble bee species to southern UK. Lovely. Good news. I was a bit disappointed that one of my bird boxes hadn't been taken as a residence by the usual by figrat

Nesting bees
Any thoughts on how to deter bumble bees from nesting in a flower border next to someone's outdoor seating area? Nest itself isn't a nuisance, just the constant air traffic...Obviously don't want to harm the bees, just encourage them to relocate by theconstantgardener

bee flies
For a while now I have seen lots of insects in my garden that resemble bees but hover and have a long probosis. Someone  told me they were hummingbird hawk moths but it is far too early and they are much larger. After investigating online I have by LM

Snowdrops and bees
Just thought I would share this. I was working in a border today that was full of snowdrops and the sound of all the bees was unbelievable.  There were just so many of them (although they seemed reluctant to stay in one place for the camera!).  I by AliP

Bee hive
This will be the 3rd year we have had the hive but no bees yet.  A friend is hoping to be able to give us a swarm but no luck so far.  As a novice I am wondering if the small bar at the bottom entrance is there to prevent a Queen from flying out so by Dorisduck
