Talkback: Butterflies in the garden
Painted Ladys.I have had plenty of fat bumble bees over the last week or two and am looking forward to the butterflies. I have seen the first peacock butterfly this year - on Tue 13/04/2010 in my back garden in Swansea We have seen a Comma and a Peacock by Pauline Claire

, but my trees look like true cherries and are deciduous).Watsonlwats, I cut down my foxgloves and they came back, it may be some of the seed fell down to the base last year. Remember, they are very toxic so please don't eat them!! Bees love them though by Richard Jones

I also planted my leeks without thinking about it, in the shade of my runner bean wigwam and the crop is not so good this year. you would be better not to plant leeks or any of the onion family near beans as the smell prevents the bees sussing out by Anonymous

, and my husband can't (and wouldn't) mow the lawn every week - so by the time he does it every 3-4 weeks, it's buzzing with bees, and my ferns, etc. were full of ladybirds this spring. Maybe it's a good job I can't get around to do the "sterile" jobs by Allotment Robin

it was 1976. The seafront was swarming with them. No wonder they are seeking refuge in our centrally -heated houses in very cold weather, but they don't bite as far as I know and do help protect our plants from aphids. it a lovely place for the bees I have by kaycurtis

little herbaceous border where I grew wallflowers Annuals certainly have their place and are useful. I am planting my favourite heliotrope which has a gorgeous scent and is loved by bees and butterflies. I believe they can be taken in for the winter by sarahs pondlife...

different variety that does, or, if you do not have room, put a tub of crab apple blossom near your tree when it is flowering. Having a neighbour who keeps bees also helps a great deal or one with an apple tree that flowers when yours does. I am sure by Greenwatch

accidentally let my leeks go to seed and the flower heads were so beautiful and bee-friendly that I have deliberately left a couple of leeks to flower every year since then! This year i have grown tomatos in my raised bed with cucumbers just to see if they grow by abbed
