Talkback: A jay in the garden
of the lawn suggest that this is not uncommon! Lovely to read about these birds, as they tend to occur this far north. Yesterday morning I witnessed 4 "shrieker in the woods",probably parents and their 2 offspring.There seems to be more Jays around this year by Spud

suggests. Make it an 'edible' hedge too - grow your own hazelnuts, sloes, rosehips, crab apples, elderberries and wild pears. Anything you don't eat will be eaten by the birds in winter, while the flowers will provide a long season of pollen and nectar by SFA

Plum problems

Discouraging Starlings
Hi - my garden has been overtaken this year by a big gang of adolescent starlings.  They eat all of the food as soon as I put it down, they constantly fight with other little birds to discourage them from using the feeders, they squeal all the time by Lunarz

Bats
Hello, I'm new to this, I'm a keen gardener and when planting consider the wildlife the plants will attract. We have introduced many boxes to encourage the birds and wildlife one of which is a bat box and although I try and watch for activity I have by Chilli Pepper

of them.you will always have mice and rats around but you have to try not to put scraps of food in the compost even fruit.They also find compost heaps good for breeding.Do not leave bird food available loose.We have a neighbours cat who keeps the rats by jen16

bay tree pruning
my bay is about ten feet high and six across, multi stemmed, it's been cut several times in the past but I've let it get a bit too tall now. I'd like to reduce the height before I can't see out of the upstairs window. Can't do it when the birds by nutcutlet

For whom do we garden .............
