Ivy or not?
a lot of ivy for the wild life which do seem to love it however it can go a bit mad and we also cut it down every year to keep it under control.  The birds love the berries in late winter and also roost in to and the bees like the later flowers - I by gcowen

chickens and slug pellets
growing. I do feed slugs to the girls its very satisfying. Thanks for any advice Mmm. I use pellets and they work great on stopping slugs eating my plants. From what I have read the side effects of birds and animals eating poisoned slugs is negligible by chicken!

creepy crawlies in the soil on the allotment
.  They are about 2cms long with a semi-hard skin.  I break them in half and put them on the bird table.  Or, if you have fish they love them too. You could buy something to kill any soil born pests but if you want to be organic then you'll just have to keep by pennypat

At wits end with carrots and slugs
, there are safe wildlife-friendly slug pellets available, and they co-exist very happily with my large bird population, hedgehogs and frogs galore. The pellets linked to above are not a poison, but a chemical that affects slugs and snails by drying them and making by Auntiemand

shape your hedge
trim them very severely because they are a difficult plant to kill.  The golden privet is a nice hedge also and a little easier to control.  They are both evergreen, and good for birds to nest in. hi yeh i know what you mean about the size of them by Richard Morris

sheep wool
deterent for slugs and snails but it is a great mulch, takes ages to rot down and carries it's own fertiliser if you use daggings( the dirty wool trimmed from a sheeps rear end) Also good for lining hanging bakets but birds do like to steal by Sheila 5
