Lupin problems
on right under our noses in hedgerows and meadows where pests are very evidently kept in check! Indeed, pests are kept in check in nature, by birds, and other insects which eat thier neighbours.  We love to intervene, kill  anything that we don't like by Yellow Daisy

baffled by strawbs and a mystery plant
for birds ans slugs to do the dirty work first then move in-they are the hyenas of the insect world- a secondary predator if you like They eat plant debris and such like- so are quite useful in that sense-not really a pest- more of a nuisance.  woodlice by Mizz

Garden arches planting - help needed
just clip everything all over in autumn and again after flowering.Plus the bird feeders hang from the top center bars, I can see all this while sitting at my kitchen table, great to look at the flowers and the birds at meal times. Pleased to say its by trish beebe

Push mowers
to use, doesn't take up much room in the shed and cuts nicely.  I can still hear the birds singing whilst I'm mowing and I am not using any electricity. sorry but ive been there its damn hard work I hope your fit. I left it for a fortnight once by quercus_rubur

The Buzzing bush!
realise that laurels are immensely important to wildlife, I call my mature one the local supermarket because from early spring onwards its alive with wasps, bees and other buzzing creatures, let alone the birds that nest. I think only my Ivy does more by Moonlit Hare

Great Diving Beetle
the larvae are around 50mm in length the adults being around 30mm. As with all things in nature it is a balancing act , the larvea may eat tadpoles etc but being large birds esp thrushes and blackbirds seem to be keen on them ( in my garden anyway) along by Jeanne F

Windchimes
night.  Lily  that's really considerate of you. Our neighbours used to have windchimes, and I found them extremely annoying - I couldn't hear the birds for their noise. Fortunately, they got tired of them quite quickly and removed them. I have to say I by Dovefromabove

even the birds .We have lost a lot of instincts of survival as in knowing what plants to use for healing or eating and what to avoid.Where as I grew up with a little knowledge of what to eat and avoid. as with predicting the weather conditions by flowering rose

Downie, the blackbids leave the fruit on the tree until the ground freezes, this is obviously their emergency reserve, I grow a lot of different lavenders from seed, other bird/insect magnets are oregano, rosemary and ecchium blue bedder,all have a by determinedpeterplant

Cosmos seeds.
of growing these for a nursing home garden I look after. I think cosmos are quite beautiful. Anyway daydaisy I hope you get your seeds soon. I grew them last year Flower bird and they really did grow into big plants.....about 5ft. Just a shame by daydaisy
