Good Evening FORKERS
survived it - so far  Did intend to use today to test out my new gauntlets by waging war on the brambles, but my blasted ME is playing up, and I've had pain in my hips all day, so only gardening I've done all day is plant up my little plantlets by blackest

Sparrowhawk dilemma
the feeding after the breeding season? Any act of gardening 'disturbs' the balance of nature. Nature would like my garden to be entirely brambles and nettles, etc. Interference is 'necessary', I suppose. Don't really want to stop feeding them as the r by jean riley

Talkback: Oak trees
forest, thats not how trees work. open grond is colonised by all sorts of seedlings then the small short lived trees (birch) grow quickly - and kill off the brambles and such. Meanwhile the little oaks seedling has been bideing its time and growing by desmond54321

Whats your plans for the garden this year?
, plus some non fruiting brambles. It has little for me or the wildlife.  Or maybe more sitting and looking at the good bits Oh so many things! I want to create a 'secret garden'. I have the space in mind and lots of 'hard landscaping by Sam Glendinning

Hedging
.  What else have I learned over the last 20 years of hedge? Watch the dogrose, it puts out long, painful growths to smack you in the face. Ditto brambles but blackberries are good.  Old man's beard smothers. Can't think of anything else at the moment by stuart 5

Bargains
rid of the brambles over the road, then they can go in with the fruit trees I already have (not so much of a bargain, but still not hugely expensive) from ideal world. Just thought I'd share.  Daren't go near wilkos though, that would properly bankrupt by Mummy Muddy Paws

Talkback: Autumn-fruiting raspberries
delicious. They do get out of control very easily as you can see in Perthshire where they grow in the hedgerows like blackberries, having escaped from the fields. but they are easier to dig out than brambles and not so prickly. My single raspberry plant has by blueberry77

shade loving ground cover
off just about anything else. Looks really good with dark geranium phaeum and purple alliums all just mixed up randomly. And if is gets away, there's always bramble-killer! Wow, so good to hear positive things about the variegated ground elder, I agree by Tigger Tom
