Talkback: How to make a mini-pond
very easy but doesn't the water get very warm and then wouldn't it become a breeding place for mosquitos? My water butt which catches rain water has quite a good lid but when I open it in summer there are always some mossies in there, lots of dead ones by catbells

and garden organically but honey fungus is lethal to trees etc. It would have been so helpful if you had shown photo and given a detailed description.Are they poisonous or just evil?! Fungi/pests in your lawn, It appears to much of humidity breeds fungi by Python15

lovely sight when trees bud in the spring. I am very new to growing fruit trees but decided to have a go last year with the new breed of fruit trees that can be grown in containers. I have been checking on them and they are all in different stages by ml1627k

and the UK now. It seems that the larvae are almost impossible to detect, and that's how they've got in. I'm not sure if we have breeding populations, though, or just odd stragglers. I certainly hope it's the latter, as, as you say, they are a serious pest. I by mickjeffries

Rust on Roses
clearing up any mess on the ground and hoe a lot so that as little as possible breeds in the surrounding soil.  Maybe some of the good people on this forum have some good advice or tricks to apply to the rust issue. Thanks Yarrow2 I buy a GW mag tomorrow by lottyh40

Bee friendly plants for hanging baskets
plant with bees, and some species of butterfly breed on it. You could also try phacelia, which is more often used as a green manure. The flowers are gorgeous and will flop over the side of the hanging baskets beautifully, and are also incredibly popular by Bowdeeka

Hedgecutting - When allowed?
According to this publication from Natural England,  publications.naturalengland.org.uk/file/120018 hedges shouldn't be cut from 1st March - 31st July - the bird breeding season. Apparently it is an offence to damage a nest while it is in use by Phytographer

rat in compost heap
of them.you will always have mice and rats around but you have to try not to put scraps of food in the compost even fruit.They also find compost heaps good for breeding.Do not leave bird food available loose.We have a neighbours cat who keeps the rats by jen16

Lots of spiders....I think!
anybody encountered them? Do I just let them breed and stay or evict them? Thanks for any replies and hopefully putting my mind at rest I always encourage spiders as they eat all the little things that I dont like,flies,mites e.t.c. Not sure by The Manic Slughunter:)
