Talkback: Fruit flies
little 'brown' matter. That is, too much kitchen waste and not enough garden stuff. The flies are attracted by the aromatics of fruit and veg fermentation so more dead leaves, corrugated paper and prunings may help dilute the fruitiness of the decay. Hi by Sheila

Talkback: Potato scab
free, but a disappointing crop in terms of size and number of spuds. Why is that, I wonder (I did water regularly) johnd- I find potatoes are such gross feeders that I do not get a good crop unless I put a layer of well-rotted horse manure over the bed by Simmo

Tomatoes
looking unhealthy, leaves starting to develop brown, yellow patches, holes etc. I did some pruning to get the leaves away from the soil, suspecting blight, and they did start to improve - I suspect thanks to the hot spell. Now the weather's been more by John Reynolds

Beaucarnea Recurvata - rotting?
I have a 50cm tall Beaucarnea Recurvata which splits into 4 branches near it's top.  I have had it for about 13 years.  A few months ago I noticed that one of the branches appeared to be dying off; the leaves were brown at their base, ie where by Flakier

grass cuttings
for grass cuttings is male human urine. The more different plant material there is in compost the better it is, but grass properly rotted down is better than nothing. Not easy to get to rot properly as it tends to go anaerobic and instead of decomposing by 4711
