. But I don't want to disturb them. Kate thought they might be bumblebees. I have had wasp nests, these are smaller, and I have become quite attached to them. I would love to know what they are, I cant do photos yet, I am new to this technology!!! Very new by happymarion

? I was going to say the same - is the area well drained? It's too early for lavender to flower - the usual time is from July to September.   The lavender with  bumble-bee shaped flowers sounds like a French lavender which is less hardy than English by frustrated_gardener

Inula hookeri is a great one for bumblebees and I find bees of all sorts love forget-me-nots. If, like me, you want a good harvest of beans you have to consider they need pollination which means lots of food plants. I respect so-called weeds by Lindy

to be cautious around bees, but bees (especially bumblebees) are one of the indicators of a healthy yard environment. I plant it. It's fabulous and it's low maintenance. It attracts bees which is a good thing. It has long roots to discourage weeds and doesn by Sansa

walk up the garden would help the stuffiness and am I glad I did - the birds were singing at the top of their voices,the smaller daffodils have all burst into bloom to join the snowdrops and crocuses, bumblebees here and there, a young squirrel by sunshine angel
