Talkback: Speckled wood butterflies
I have seen Yellow Brimstones, Orange Tips as well as the Holly Blue butterflies adding colour to my spring garden. Better than two years ago when we hardly saw any butterflies at all throughout both spring and summer. Just seen a small white, so by Adam Pasco

but the species which has been most evident was the brimstone yellow. yep spotted these guys in my garden in Co Louth Ireland usually we get painted Ladies but lots of peacocks this year I've bought a white buddleia just to please the butterflies, also got by tn

lovely that you had so many types of bugs bee's and butterflies, the wolf spider sounds quiet exciting to, when I first came to live in this house37 years ago, there were masses of creepy crawlies grasshoppers were hopping everywhere but over by andrew littleford

other types of plants too, for example the evergreen hedge on the boundary with my neighbours is teeming with moths, because it is a good sleeping place. Also, moths and butterflies can be very specific about larval food plants, such as the holly blue by Botticelliwoman

Butterfly a few days after xmas

Non-cultivar flowering plants
I would be pleased to hear from any readers who can suggest non-cultivar plants for a rather shaded garden, in the hope that butterflies and bees will become a less rare sight in my garden (I know they're declining, anyway ... very sad).  A friend by Barry Williams2
