was! Here in Gloucestershire my sweet peas have been prolific but have masses of pollen beetles. (Also am constantly picking off sweet pea leaves covered in caterpillars (as well as leaves covered in eggs). The cabbage whites love my pea leaves by Sweet pea

soil is heavy clay so I might give that a go. Last year I grew cabbages in pots, the copper tape stopped any slugs and they grew well, pity I forgot about the caterpillars, totally decimated! The first time I grew cabbages they did well. One night I by southwickman

the lot to the cabbage white's offspring - the whole bed was writhing with caterpillars - I had been ill in bed for a week and unable to chase them off with my tennis racket (I'm sure my neighbours think I'm insane) I wimped out and left them for my by Dahlia Lover

fortunate than me as all I've seen are a couple of cabbage whites. I do love watching the butterflies when I have the chance - they are sooooo beautiful. I keep my binoculars handy so that I can get a good view. Hope I get some more colourful ones appearing by C Pattinson

Talkback: Butterflies in the garden
spotted two peacock butterflies and an a lovely yellow one which definitely wasn't a cabbage white. Could anyone please enlighten me? Peaceful - you probably saw a brimstone yellow butterfly, bright yellow is the male and greenish yellow the female by Pauline Claire

is that it goes into the ground after the cabbage white caterpillars have done their worst, along with its bitter flavour, this seems to preserve it from predation. It can be a bit of an acquired taste though! Andy Smith, they look like tomatoes beceause by andy smith
