year.Carrot root fly lays its eggs in the soil near carrots and they overwinter usually flying in June but can also have a second run in August. There are sprays for use against the late flight although I do not like them.Rotate your crop well away from by gardenerbabs

Carrot root fly
Hello everyone. I have just discovered carrots which I have cooked and consumed had root fly. I just peeled them and removed the dark parts. Can they still be eaten or should they go on the compost heap? by fishwithlegs

Green manure- caliente mustard good for carrot root fly?
I want to sow caliente mustard as a green manure. It is a biofumigant, if you can dig it in VERY fast after crushing it.  The reason is that I'm plagued with carrot root fly, and I've come to the conclusion that as they overwinter in the soil by Whatalottie

CARROT AND RADISH FLY
and they were excellent but the year before they got the carrot fly badly.  Does anyone know what causes this and if so why one year good then next year full of fly? As far as I know carrot fly does not attack radishes. I think cabbage root fly though will do by Poppy Red

Carrots & Parsnips Companion Planting?
you may find is carrot root fly, we have a problem with these on our site. Companion planting can work apparently, but you have to have the ratio of carrot/onion family at 1:4 for it to be successful. I'd leave yours as they are and see what happens by Roxanne Blanton

Carrots in tubs
own compost and leaf mould and use peat free composts, but do I need something a bit more hefty? I'm planning to use a variety of shorter carrot but wonder what is the minimum pot size I need.  I've read up about carrot root fly and think I can protect by rutlandbelle

Carrots.
Does anyone know when it is safe to sow carrots to avoid the root fly?  I believe it to be July Is it safe now? I think it is ok now, cowslip, I am planting my second lot this week; have you had probs with this fly before? Last year I put a 40cm by cowslip2

Growing veg for local village show
into the earth, as they will fork if they hit a stone.  Would go for covered container, that way carrot fly won't spoil them.  Depending on when the show is, sort of dictates if you grow them in a greenhouse or cloche. If you have time, I'd go for some by Rick greenfingers
