your wife doesn’t value biodiversity. I bet she likes feeding the birds though. One of the reasons sparrows and song thrushes are declining is a loss of natural food for their young. Birds visit feeders themselves, but nearly always feed caterpillars by James Bond

Nettles
are essential for many of our most popular butterflies to breed - the Peacock, Red Admiral, Comma, and Small Tortoiseshell. Therefore no nettles means none of those butterflies.The caterpillars of those butterflies also provide food for birds, so in that sense by Cranesbill

when we grew our first cabbages last year and the butterflies used them as a nursery, i didn't mind too much as there was enough to share. im not sure that my neighbours felt the same though. i saw for the first time ever a wasp carry off a caterpillar by Kathleen Marley

in gardening eh! DeniseHard to tell without seeing the little worms but they could be nematodes or caterpillars. I'd suggest you keep checking and remove any little critters you find. Look out especially for slugs - they love lettuce. But most of all, please by Vida

New veg grower and advice needed pls
at this time of year tends to be bulkier foods and not lush tender things all sparkly and inviting to wildlife. The bane of my french beans is black fly, my brassicas always get mullered by caterpillars or pigeons, the birds shred my beetroot leaves to pieces by Bettyslad

Nettles
