Talkback: Squirrels, foxes and snow

can hear birds sing too at dusk in the evening. I'm not so much woken up by the bird song, as by my two cats sitting on the bedroom windowsill at the crack of dawn watching the birds singing in the nearby tree branches, and doing their 'cat by jogette

Morning all , cat woke me up by sitting on my head hence the early post ! Its a lovely day here in Lancashire so thought I would have a potter about in the garden today. I planted some erythroniums ( dogs tooth violets )  last year in tubs by jean riley

there and how far down the hole goes. it might be an idea to get a cat, if you haven't already got one, ours brings home voles regularly. Where abouts in Switzerland are you? Even if slugs are the culprit the number of pellets is a bit OTT.  Thanks SwissSue! I by Leekie

the trouble, weejenny. I added a little bit the other day. I'm just going to check it's not total rubbish!! I like to keep a low profile in case the cat owners come for me. However, I will admit to living north of Stonehenge and south of the Craven Fault by weejenny

. We've also got a cat that would turn the beds over for me on a regular basis until I made a dedicated patch filled with sharp sand for her to use.....could be the answer ! It would be nice not to be having to tell him off all the time so worth a try, I would by Matt Lee

Encouraging birds to the garden
Does anyone have any advice on shrubs or trees to plant that will encourage birds please?  I have a smallish garden so would need things that grow tall rather than wide and also I have two ferocious cats so I need somewhere for the birds to safely by cloud8

think it's because we're being overrun by squirrels. Last year we had 1 squirrel, now we're getting upto 12 at any one time! The squirrels are attracting the local cat population, which is probably keeping the birds away. Even our trusty robins haven by Kate Bradbury
