Timber
Some !"!"!!"££ has dumped a load of hedge prunings down the lane. Now much of it is obviously conifer, but a lot of the thicker stuff is not so easy to id. It has mahogany coloured bark (very similar to our cherry trees) and the cut ends are bright by Berghill

What is eating my cooking apple tree?
the wood of the trunk inside and the bark, and the dark colour of the trunk wood (which I would expect to be creamy white, or grey on an older wound.)  That could all point to a fungal attack f some kind, as Alina mentions.   I don't know what it is - looks by Nicole2

plants dying - conifer
picture and I am not quite sure if the lighter coloured areas are light brown( tan coloured) or pale green. If it is the former then it could be wind damage so to overcome this nip of the brown tips back to green foliage but no further. If you cut back by maggienewgardener

Why Miss Bateman?
lady indeed!! I had her in a large pot until the snails came and licked her bark off and she died - no joke, apparently snails (and probably slugs too) have masses of little hooks on their tongues and when they find a plant they like - which seems by Wintersong

Winter wonders
as they are edited - and some enthusing from this gardener who has been suffering from withdrawal symptoms in our dire wet autumn.  What a treat it is to see the winter sun. The winter sun shows up the pink in the bark of the Scots pine.   The beech tree full by happymarion

Reading Abbey. I thought then how majestic and ancient it looked with its knarled and twisted bark and imagined that the old monks of the abbey planting it long ago aware of its healing properties. I was with my partner at the time, who was a botanist by hereisabee

Wood chip
will let u no I would probably say just go for a thick layer of bark as this will massively reduce the number of weeds by itself and in my experience beds with membranes can become a real pain as the plants mature especially if you're planting perennials by Wildflower2

Talkback: Making leaf mould
I have a eucalyptus tree that is growing in a neighbours garden that is soooo massive it overhangs the end of my garden. The main problem is all the leaves and bark that it drops everywhere all year round. Can anyone tell me if I can compost by James Bond
