I have a small garden and patio with not much room in the garden for a standard compost bin. I would like to have 1 just outside my back door so i can add waste direct from the kitchen. Do you have any ideas ? What tumbler would you reccomend by Andrew Short

Has anyone used wilko's own brand? I've just bought a 60l bag half price at £2.50 I figured it was worth a try at that price!  I have used it, and their seed and cutting compost.  It is OK  but I would hesitate to use it for long term planting. I by tattianna

Talkback: Insects on compost heaps
The two giant compost bins in our garden (thanks, Stroud Council!) doing fine. But imagine the surprise last summer when I discovered at least three grass snakes in there. This spring, whilst taking the bin apart, I found what I had hoped to find by Estelle Bryers

Talkback: Sieving compost
Pippa - where can I buy the sieve that you are using as mine is finer and takes ages to sieve anything? I agree with your comments about the seed compost. I also find large lumps in mine and will try B & Q as someone suggested. I know exactly what by jennyhewitt

personal experience on composting
I have been looking at composting loads in the past week or so. I know what goes in it now and what does not. However, I have read some articles which say have the bin raised so air can go through, some that say it should be on the ground and others by Sam Glendinning

I want to resume composting now I have moved house. However, my husband fears rats are attracted to compost heaps. Please reassure him this is not so. Of course rats can be anywhere, but provided you only put green waste from the kitchen and garden by Stuart Dupree
