Talkback: Allotment successes
and boxes. My runner beans were slow in getting started but then they really went to town. Tomatoes took long time to ripen then suddenly they have all come good. Courgettes have just about finished [mildew] but marrows have suddenly romped away again. Help by S lambert

Talkback: Autumn on the allotment
is the best preparation you can give any soil. If you don't have any, a bit of rotted down manure from the garden centre will help feed the soil.There are lots of late lettuce varieties around suitable for shorter days, try 'Winter Gem'. You can plant spring by Kathryn

Talkback: Reap what you sow
(try and go for blight resistant varieties), lettuce and runner beans (but being sure you have slug and snail protection). Also, courgettes are relatively easy and you only need 2 or 3 plants to keep you going through the summer. Finally, spinach by Cathy

Talkback: How to build a raised bed
(inches thick) and they are good to use. If you buy five of them they will make two 16ft beds. Cost about 36 euros per bed. Jangra - I'd use untreated timber. It will last for a long time anyway, and you can always replace it when it does rot. Treated by granny

Today's dilemma
over them when indeed they grow! But the next challenge is a wheelbarrow. It was on the side of the road so he knocked on the door and asked for it. It's an old fashioned heavy envelope sided one. Concrete type wheel. It's handled are rusty and rotted by * Red Dahlia *

plant yellow and green courgettes, squashes of various shapes and sizes, sugar peas, peppers and even aubergines. Four groups of marigolds to deter pests, dark kale pants round the beans and many other unusual varieties were of great interest throughout by Brighton Bloke

carpet and certainly not rubber backed ones as they don't rot down well. Have fun. I am a new allotment holder,its was a very neglected patch. i am slowly winning the battle. my main problem is a large neglected plum tree that was full of very small by Lauren W

The Blessing of a new Allotment
should be planted out singly? not in the clumps they came in when I bought the seedling box.... How will I fit all those leeks in my itsy bitsy bed? The other bed has some beetroot seeds, some thyme and space for the courgettes I'm growing from seed by Dean Lovett

February in Your Garden
with my friend and got some seed compost also some general potting compost 4 bags for £10.00,  it's nice stuff much better than B+Q's Verve as that has gone all twiggy sort of not rotted down properly so just need some warmer weather now so I can set some by newbee flowergirl28
