Advice please on levelling a lawn
Cutch grass, creeping buttercups etc as you do not want loads of that regrowing. Otherwise what you have said sounds like how I would do it. I would go for turf as grass seed takes 1-2 years before it looks reasonable as you get lots of earth showing by Pampa

water edging plants
heathers ferns, but in places creeping buttercup and ground elder try to rule.  We do not really have any water edging plants down there and I would really like some.  This year in spring I split some hostas and put those there and they have done really by Maderense

overgrown border
is matted with creeping buttercups which look lovely when in flower but on the other hand are a bit invasive! If the bed and plants/shrubs were smaller my instinct would be to take everything out and clean the bed as much as possible of the buttercups then by nightgarden

Geum with red and yellow flowers on one plant
the garden, it never did much for years then I re-planted it in front of the greenhouse and it has really settled there. Now in full bloom orange flowers standing tall I did notice some yellow yesterday and on investigation discovered creeping buttercup by jabacab

the packet ! Think my daugher's got the bug tho ... just hope I don't kill them all ... I think that the plant in your first image ( turnips) is creeping buttercup which can be an invasive weed and really needs digging up. It has brittle roots and all by Alan Howard

Best and worst
- "plants for free" is my motto .  My worst job has to be getting rid of those ever present brambles - I never seem to win that fight without injury! Best is planting new stuff out.  Worst is weeding out couch grass, creeping buttercup, nettles and bindweed by Brumbull
