using bulbs as annuals in shade
sun, but I know of a deciduous wood in northern France which is full of daffodils, followed by bluebells - so, perhaps there isn't too much shade before the leaves grow. Bluebells should be OK in shade because the leaves are starting to grow by Rick greenfingers

Red Robin shrub
I have a Red Robin shrub in my garden and I am constantly having to clean up the lawn because of fallen leaves. It doesn't seem to be deciduous as it generally retains its leaves through the winter. However single leaves fall constantly by Dorinda Mcilwraith

plants for part shade/ full shade
yellow grass, a carex I think, growing really well in a dry shade similar situation. It does depend on why it's shade/what's causing it. Under deciduous trees lots of the spring bulbs pop up, flower then die back as the tree canopy above closes up by Gardengirl..

Talkback: Trees for small gardens
evergreens are quite dense. If you live in a relatively mild place then you could grow an Olive. Alternatively Arbutus or Acacias would work well. Your choice increases dramatically if you can cope with deciduous trees.Mildred: If you click on the links by McNumps

Ideas appreciated for shrubs to create structure in my new garden
My borders are empty apart from 4 trees, each about 10' or 12' high - a conifer and a lilac side by side on the left hand side, a prunus and an apple tree about 12' apart on the right hand side.  But I need to put some shrubs and climbers in front by happycottontail
