What is this Leaf please
not just at the top of plant but on the sides as well. I'm not new to the garden I have lived here 34 years, I wondered if it was from all the seeds that I feed the birds as I have other strange plants growing but can't show you a picture as don't know how by RAGDOLL520

Dwarf Cherry Tree
,but it hasn't. It is still the same height and spread as when I bought it. This is why I think it might well be a Dwarf and not what I expected. I wanted a medium sized tree that would give me blossom,and fruit for me and the birds. Not a tiny tree that bends by Wessex Wellies

Advice on where to plant my apple tree and suitable hedging
garden is putting a pitched roof on top of his garage  to create a bedroom. Also their kitchen window looks into our garden so my second issue is, what sort of hedging to plant ,I would like a fast growing and dense and also bird friendly. I would  really by pennymax

miniature nature reserves.Certain trees and shrubs are magnets for birds and insects, Pyracanthas are great for House Sparrows- the taller and denser the better.In the Autumn/Winter they will have Blackbirds and thrushes feeding on the berries.Elder is great by petethegardener

Tree sparrows & house sparrows.
to man or feeding from bird feeders. So if it has a grey head then definitely a house sparrow. http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/t/treesparrow/index.aspx   You'll be seeing more at this time of year as there will be families of juveniles by jean riley

Blackbirds
and female territories are separate, but male territories are not exclusive to one bird, and you may have dominant and subsidiary birds, both of whom mate with the female, but only the dominant male will feed the young unless mating has occurred by SilverFairy

Berry-eating birds will need more help this year
- fruit (raisins etc) scattered on the lawn regularly in the morning will bring blackbirds into your garden and keep them alive through the cold winter months. One very cold day last winter we had over 20 blackbirds in our garden at one time, feeding by Dovefromabove

diverse and interesting. I'd forget the fish and allow as wildlife pond , just my opinion Hi Nutcutlet I am begining to think so, I don't mind feeding the birds but that was just taking the..biscuit. Although I must admit I did enjoy the fish.What to put by finty

handful of fruit and berry feed and all is working so far. Not sure of the variety though. I'd like to grow gooseberries but don't have enough room to plant them in the ground. Do they grow well in pots and if so what variety is best? I have bought some by agnes30
