Encouraging bats in our gardens
 cow pasture gets a couple of treatments a year for certain weeds and most of the birds they list as resident actually feed at my feeders most of the year.   I don't know where the bats we lost were roosting and we surely have more insects than before but maybe by obelixx

of these lovely creatures in our front garden one night , and as I feed he birds in the morning , perhaps there is still some food left for them . I hope so as I do not like to put food out at night as I do not want to encourage rats!!I expect with all the rain we by Di Barker

Deutzia - should it stay or should it go now
?  I'm thinking the elder is but I love the scent of philadelphus I would say the Elder would be better for wildlife, especially birds.. I love Philadelphus for their perfume but I haven't noticed much Bee activity on mine, might be because it has a lot by HyppyByker

" at the top help them to fatten up at the base? Is this true for all hedging? Fences would be easier but birds and insects don't benefit much from fences, do they? Laurels are very good at shooting from brown wood, so your chances are good if you trim them by catnip

and the berries are edible as well. Some plants just go on giving.The pink leaves of Davidii involucra are lovely in the autumn and you have the handkerchiefs in May.My birds brought a spindle tree for free to my garden and it is covered with its lovely pink by happymarion

and under the hedge ( here to bury any food they fancy from the the bird feeders. having been away when the snow settled i can see their trails across the garden combing the feeding stations for any likely finds. they also seem to need to mess in the bird by PaulS

Keeping Chickens
birds but lay teeny eggs! I would never be without hens now, they are so worthy of a place in anyones garden. I will definately stick with Brahmas, I love their size, they are very tame and I love their feathery feet! Hello, I only have 2 hens by David K
