Keeping Cats and Wildlife apart?
I was interested in the article about Cats in this months magazine as I have two.  The way I keep them away from the birds is to feed the birds in the front garden - its tiny but all the wildlife is out there, frogs, toads, etc, the cats have to go by ClaireCat

better contribution to nature, put the dried leaves back and the bulbs went into ordinary pots in the end. Suzi, unfortunately you may have to call the environmental health people in. I used to feed the birds with black sunflower seed in those upside by SuziQ

Sparrowhawks, Rooks & Crows.Sadly I have a problem with neighbours cats, they seem to think I feed the birds for their bellies. I was advised to try moth balls to keep the cats away, and one in particular is very brazen, he is not scared of my sons two Japanese by Roy McFarland

feeder everyday to feed from the fat balls. It is costing me a fortune in fat balls and coconut and he decided not to turn up the one day I was counting! I also did the bird watch and was disappointed that so few birds were around this year (2 wood by donutsmrs

Talkback: Sparrows and sparrowhawks
this week they have had three. The smaller birds I feed from feeders in either a hawthorn hedge or in holly trees which does seem to deter them, but they have been seen sitting on top of the hedge lurking with intent! I know cats can be a problem by Jacey26

What DO they put in bags of mixed birdseed?!
gregarious feeders - where they see one bird having a safe nosh they tend to join in. If all else fails restrict the food that they can access. I find all the species I want can learn to feed from hanging feeders, except the blackbirds and thrushes. Have by Freespirit

Choosing plant for birds
I have recently started feeding birds on my balcony. Bluetits, Blackbirds and Thrushes (may be female Blackbirds, I've only seen them from the roadside) at the minute. I would like to grow some kind of shrub that is suitable for a large container by John Bradshaw
