Pruning a Privet hedge
certainly won't do it any harm in the long run. Calendula is right -you can cut back privet no problem and it gives it a new lease of life. Leave till birds have gone then get chopping! Giving it a good water, feed and mulch when you do so will get it away by Grubby1

The wrong kind of birds
.  Or at least to tip seed onto the ground. I daren't put anything out for the ground feeding birds, since a swarm of rooks/crows (a veritable "murder" of the wretched things) will swoop down and take everything. They deter the smaller birds, and with the by Shrinking Violet

Why are blackbirds digging the garden
In all the years I have been gardening and feeding birds this is the first year that the blackbirds have decided to dig up everything in sight.  The garden looks a complete mess after a couple of days, bark mulch all over the paths, bulbs and plants by Jobird

best kind of bird feeder?
So far I've only really scattered a few peanuts around, but mainly squirrels get those...and whenever I tried a sunflower shaped wire bird feeder (hanging type) all the nuts kept getting soaked and spoiled. What's the best type to use which also by Jess is in the Garden

loved it! I wish more of my friends were gardeners, there's such a huge choice. Most gardeners love feeding the Birds too, so a bird feeder and some bird feed would make a good little present for all gardeners. It also gives you good chance to pop out by happymarion2
