Too cold to relocate perennials?
are Geraniums, Aquilegia, Sedums, Ferns, and dig up, split and replant Crocosmia (which is already 6 inch green spikes). My soil is relatively light (sandy/silty loam) so is not cold like clay loam or heavy clay. I'm desperate to get in the garden this Easter by Tim Burr

Talkback: Saving foxglove seeds
successfully.I spray before it appears if possible and after that added to the warter for the roots to take up.They are lovely plants and I think worth a try. Last year I was impressed by the show the foxgloves made at Hanham Court Garden in among the ferns by bigdaddy

shade loving ground cover
ferns are god in shade as are hostas which will give floiage colour and variegations and tall spikes of white, lilac or purple flowers. All will benefit from having plenty of good garden compost or well rotted manure worked into the soil before planting by Tigger Tom

Winter wonders
mollis (witch hazel), both red and yellow in flower and three or four brown wallflowers.  My evergreen ferns are delightful as well so must take my camera up tomorrow if i can walk after the last three hectic days of gardening.  I am so pleased by happymarion

Flowers we don't like?
, hakonechloa, ferns, a couple of dwarf conifers and lily of the valley which all cope with winter, a bit of damp and no direct sun most of the year. No wussy plastic busies.   As I qualified as a florist a few years ago, my family are  always buying me flowers by artjak

Talkback: Summer bedding plants
, so happy to hear you love your fernery. Mine too is looking good and I have borrowed an idea from Hanham Court Garden and interspersed the ferns with foxgloves - lots of colour and height too as my ferns are still young. The small perennials that do by sarahs pondlife...
