Talkback: Trees for small gardens
, with flowers, fruit and good autumn colour. The birds think they are great too. And they keep the witches away! 30m is not a small tree. This is very misleading. I have a small garden and a tree this size would fill the garden I agree with the comment from by Willowtree

Talkback: Goldfinches, cats and children
I am so happy to report that I've had Goldfinches in my garden, after 5 years of trying to entice the more exotic birds, like bullfinches and goldfinches. Over the past three days I have seen pairs of Goldfinches, greenfinches (another wow factor by Roy McFarland

Planting Ideas
....wont risk it. Its a vicious brute needing serious pruning. What about a beautiful yellow ivy called Buttercup? This for your winter colour albeit without the berries. In my garden birds do nest in it. I would plant a buddleia in front by Annie 5

Bats
Hello, I'm new to this, I'm a keen gardener and when planting consider the wildlife the plants will attract. We have introduced many boxes to encourage the birds and wildlife one of which is a bat box and although I try and watch for activity I have by Chilli Pepper

Talkback: Sparrows in Paris
, it is loss of habitat. Garden hedges are too often ripped out and replaced by fencing - not everyone realizes that hedges are not only possible nesting sites (for all sorts of birds) but the best refuge from predators. This coupled with the trends for hiding by Paul Narramore

what do you think is the best make of bird food you have bought?
stores. Making  your own fat balls is a good idea, with seeds the birds are currently eating in the garden at any one time. Aldi also do a fruity muesli which goes down well here and mixes well in fat balls. You would need to check the label though by Lavender Lady
