Talkback: Magpies and mice
for 30 years. Haven't had magpies in the garden but noticed in a local park whilst a load of small birds were mobbing a polystyrene chip tray in vain as it was upside down a magpie flew down turned the tray with its foot and flew off with the contents by suelynmo

have seen about half a dozen of these beautiful birds before but this sight was just amazing.Our garden is only 40ft long but I want to try to get some berried shrubs or small tree in there somewhere ... just in case. In the meantime will enjoy all by Deb

Birds nesting
will have to wait until later in the year to sort out the ivy. On a seperate note, I didn't realise until I saw him just now but robin's can hover (like humming birds). I do have a pile of cut down branches etc at the bottom of my garden which I cut down by discodave

Talkback: Attract wildlife to your garden pond
I have two ponds in my back garden and they certainly encourage loads of extra wildlife to the area! I've had seen beautiful dragonfiles, frogs, toads and newts in mine to name but a few, and the attracted bird life is staggering! I've written a by Glyn from AnimalsUnlimited.co.uk

Talkback: Garden wildlife and autumn tidying
the pleasure no end. My garden is a bit too wild at present, but the wildlife is amazing, particularly the birds. I am fortunate to live in Berks,but it isn't too far to where the Red Kite release programme took place in the 90's, so we get to see 1 RK every by Richard Jones

Discouraging Starlings
Hi - my garden has been overtaken this year by a big gang of adolescent starlings.  They eat all of the food as soon as I put it down, they constantly fight with other little birds to discourage them from using the feeders, they squeal all the time by Lunarz

that this happened. Also the fact that its only happened to 4 so far out of 30 odd seems a bit strange. Birds-some are attracted to yellow lazy gardener wrote (see) Birds-some are attracted to yellow Thats the winning explaination at the moment. Any more bids by bcosergio

. Plus the larva eat aphids so they are welcome in my garden any day. :) I quite agree with Honesty the more hoverflies the less greenfly. I find it unbelievable, that a post on birds in the garden will attract a deluge of comments, but one such as yours by HeavyHorse

Gardening For Wildlife
to your garden.Avoid being to tidy and using gravel ,make a shelter for birds and foxs  at the bottom .You have a pond ,do not put fish in it,and with time and ever gaining experience you ll have a garden to sit and watch nature at its best. Thank you by Mark Feather
