Safe to plant bay tree near house?
, and if planted out into the garden they can throw out enough suckers to grow into an absolute thicket - and can reach over 20 feet in height quite easily if not kept under control. I've got one of those thickets. Very nice for the birds to nest in but far too by Jim Roberts

nesting blackbird
of herself! For the first time to my knowledge, I have a blackbird in my garden.  Arrived yesterday and didn't turn a feather when I walked down the garden today.  Just carried on with what 'it' was doing.  Know nothing about birds and wonder whether you by Aliesh

Awww, it was the same for my sister gardening in Edmonton in Canada, James. It was amazing how much they could grow in their very short three months without snow and freezing weather. And the lack of flavour in the veg. they could grow by happymarion

I have a bare tree next to my camelia bush my daughter told me to dig it out goodness knows what it is or how it got there what do you all think it is  I have self-seeded hazels and Norway maples popping up in my garden. You need to post a picture by joyce mannell

pragmatic about it. Do you feed birds by any chance? The reason that I'm asking is that spilled bird food can attract rats as an easy source of food. I fear it is a rat; one year my beetroot did not grow; the neighbours who were watering the garden when I by daydaisy

Problem Ivy
We've just in herited a garden with a house that we bought at the end of last month. There is a monster amount of Ivy all over the place, to the point of it's choaking all other plants in the garden.#  We certainly need to thin out the ivy by Moonlithare

the foodchain, like a bird, can find them. There is no need to be cruel to be a successful gardener. I love it when a tame robin or blackbird joins me while I am gardening to pick up worms - luckily all the gardens I work in have very fertile soil. I agree by Dragonfly
