Do i 'Grow' or 'Cover'??
of breaking it down, digging it over and adding manure ready for spring, my dilemma is, i dont know whether to then cover it to warm the soil or leave it open and plant seeds for green manure to dig in, in the spring. Would the ground benefit from air by chic-vic

Perennials
been kept under cover and frost free than leave until you have either hardened it off or the risk of 'hard' frosts has passed. If it is in a pot and has been outside over winter then it can go in the border anytime. As long as the ground isn't frozen. I by shazza3

Planning for ground frosts
, the wind keeps the air moving so things don't get too cold, and the clouds act as a blanket round the earth to keep the warm air in. If there's no cloud cover, and the air is still, then there is a slight risk of a ground frost, it can be quite warm during by bcosergio

onion sets
mine were planted this time last year but with the weather being so unsettled up here in Durham have decided to wait a while, the ground that they are going into is covered in plastic and put my red sets in pots a  week ago with  good roots already by antony turner

BARE ROOT ROSES
, thank you  - the roses were chosen for specific places in the garden so they'll be planted out when the time comes.  If I'm successful with these two then perhaps I'll try more........   Rose Lady I have just had a ground cover rose 'Worcestershire by pinkpeony

Stony and hard ground
I would love to grow a few vegetables and fruit but the ground is hard, stony and full of grass, weeds and moss. Apparently it probably has never seen a spade in it's live and neighbour reckons I'll end up with a sore back if I try and dig it over by Chickenmama

ground frost warning
Just need to get through tonight - the lowest forecast temperature of the week - just when my apple, pear and plum blossoms have started to open out. All my trees are dwarf - 6 ft or less (stepovers) so I have covered them all up as best I can. From by Gold1locks

Talkback: Weeds and weather
Interesting when you talk about weed. In Germany you can buy Yarrow in almost every colour, which is a wonderful native butterfly- and a bee magnet. And Vinca is also sold here as a nice and very effectual ground-cover against weed!. Now that makes by kaycurtis20002000@yahoo.co.uk

Talkback: Butterfly chrysalis
-invade the following year. You are amazing. If I were walking and saw that on the ground I wouldn't have thought anything about it. It looks like a leaf. Good thing you came along. Interesting that it is coloured green, which would make it more visible at this time by hereisabee

Sweet Peas and Frost
Hi I sowed my sweet pea seeds directly into the ground in early March.  Due to the very warm we have just enjoyed they are now growing really well and are about and inch and a half through the soil, although not quite reaching the bottom by Grecian
