Marigolds in the veg patch
that they keep some pests at bay. I plant marigolds in the veg patch, tagetes in the greenhouse for tomatoes and am just about to put tagetes minutiae (sp!) to try & combat some ground elder. Thanks for the tip about summer savory for broad bean - I sowed lots by Verdun

Bluebells- Spanish or English?

't get the pic to come big enough to see. The second looks like a buttercup. We should have had this forum when I had my first garden. I was nurturing ground elder til my MIL turned up and recognised it I would agree with nutcutlet the second one by missimaxo

Compost heap
carboard good with your lawn cuttings, and weeds whch are not dreadful things like dock or ground elder.  Egg shells, crushed, are good, all yur vegetable peelings etc. of course, the garden will rovide plenty in due course, just keep lightening the load by Rocket60

and my garden is smothered in ground elder as my neighbours think it's ground cover and leave it to romp all over the place. my peonies are comming up nicely though even though they have to put up with heavy clay, enjoy all these little tit bits by marghinds

come and perch on the line and do their business. If you leave the ground alone the next year up will pop lots of hawthorns and elderberries etc. James, I find it a stupid comment that eldeflower is a weed, it's got herbal properties and it is no weed by Matthew Wheeler

and braces or should i just use the stone? Also does anyone think i would be "sufficating" the soil beneath without regular addition of organic mulch? Help please. I don't like weed matting on beds but if you've got to keep down something like ground elder I by Lawrence G
