late apple drop?
is one of the most challenging apples to grow well.  Commercial growers spray and spray and spray again. Maybe not the best choice for the amateur.  The best apples to grow are not usually the ones you can find with ease in the supermarket. Last year by nadiamaz

We would like to grow some apple trees in our garden. We would like three sweet ones. Anyone have any favourites? Why is your post headed 'Rootstock?'  The rootstock governs the eventual height and spread of the tree.  Sweet apples can be on any by SilverFairy

Talkback: Choosing apple tree varieties
.It didn't last in my garden. Planted new variety last winter called Hertfordshire Russet. We let it grow three apples to taste and they were the best ever. Look forward to next season Storing apples. I think Monty missed a trick on GW on 7.10.11. Most by Trey

Talkback: Crab apple trees
I've had a Weeping Japanese Crab Apple for so long it cheered up; the branches grow sideways instead of down giving it a lovely shape. Every year marauding squirrels strip off bunches of red apple supporting twigs, split open the small apples by Mary

Talkback: Apple harvest
I tried growing three varieties of Minarettes this year from Ken Muir, but must say that I wasn't thrilled with the success. You mentioned that your young tree only produced two apples...is this normal for their first year in the ground? I had by Ian Galland

Scarlet sentinel column apple tree
We moved into our house 2 years ago and have a rather unusal apple tree. It grows straight up like a column, is probably about 8ft tall and has 4 or 5 main branches all growing straight up with short spurs coming off them. It is no more than a metre by Caroline 5

Talkback: How to make compost
walked also over the area - what is the best way to deal with this earth so that I can look forward to growing vegetables there soon? I cannot afford a great expense. You can put crab apples in your compost but it would be better to let the birds eat by meg.hopkins@yah
