Can I prune an espalier apple tree in winter?
Hi. I am new here & not all all the most green fingered person you will ever meet. I have moved into a house recently & the garden has a 2 tier espalier apple tree which seems reasonably well established & bore a lot of healthy apples last year by volvos60s60

How many fruit trees?
be able to put into the space ( I think I read somewhere that some trees as cordons can be planted 2 foot apart)? Can you suggest any trees to go in, I'm thinking along the lines of a dessert apple, a pear, plum or damson trees? Are there any combinations by Richardsdrr

Apple /Pear trees
then you can leave them in pots and just add a good quality feed every few months during the growing season. You can also feet tomato feed once a week when the fruit are starting to swell if you keep them in their pots. I have cherry, apple and plum trees by Janet Smith3

I have a dwarf apple tree in the garden Croquella, it's self fertile. When I first got it 5 years ago it was in a pot but 4 years ago I planted it in the ground in fertile, well drained soil in a sunny position.   Initially I sort of expected by Cheerypeabrain

Talkback: Stone me!
try the taste test too as I rather enjoy apples that are just a little bit un-ripe as far as the official opinion goes! I have a small patio and decking area and would like to grow fruit trees, perhaps apples and pears, in pots. Do I look by Susan St James
