Talkback: Asparagus beetles
out from the cupboard under the sink today and a live asparagus beetle dropped off the lid. It must have come indoors to find somewhere to hibernate. Strange, because neither we nor any of our neigbours grow the host plant in any of our gardens as far by bunnysgarden

Asparagus Seedlings
Being new to gardening (and very enthusiastic!) I have been trying out lots of different vegetable plants.  A few weeks ago, I planted some asparagus seeds, perhaps a little foolishly.  Some of these germinated and are now about 5 inches high by Hayley Earl

Is this area suitable for growing veg?
I have an area that I'd like to use to grow veg in two or three raised beds: asparagus, plus salad, the Asian veg that I find it hard to buy, and lots of fresh peas.  The area is long and relatively narrow, with a cultivable width of about a metre by Laura Corin

new asparagus crowns and frost?
My asparagus crowns arrived 2 days ago, but the ground is still freezing, soaked and the night temperatures forecast to drop to -6 and barely above freezing in the day time, my books make little mention of how warm the earth/air temperatures should by adarajames

How do I get rid of ivy and wild asparagus vine?
Hi All! I have a back wall and fence with ivy and wild aspargus vine and as I understand it the Ivy gives off a fluid in it's roots that stops other plants growing near it. Most of it is holding up some dead Elms along with the wild asparagus vine by Liz Douglas

What not to grow
Every year I decide to try to grow at least one new vegetable, and I have to say I've been disappointed with my recent efforts: Celtuce - bitter green leaves with no point or interest to them. Asparagus peas - didn't thrive, stayed tiny and produced by Green Magpie
