How to move a bay leave tree
Hi, we have several bay leave trees which have been growing successfully in the garden for about 5 years. We would like to move them and put in large pots instead. How best to do this successfully is the question? Stephen A by Stephen A

Bay tree
My bay tree is 4 feet high and I keep it in a large pot. Over the past two weeks I have picked off dozens of leaves that have turned dark brown. In many cases the leaves turn colour at the tip end whilst the rest of the leaf is still bright green by Yorkie in Exile

crispy black edges to some of my plants' new leaves
My dwarf acer, bay tree (in pot), one clematis and a lavender all seem to have a problem with new leaves - whilst the plants are still thriving in themselves at least for the moment, most of the new leaves have developed black edges which are crispy by freshairfanatic

Unhappy Bay Tree
small bay plants (15-20 cms tall) from garden centres quite cheaply, and if you plant them in a good spot they will thrive and grow.  I had one I bought from the 'reduced' counter in a garden centre in a 1 litre pot. It was misshapen and sad by JaneCossins

Composting
also take too long to compost, so I tend to burn all my prunings.  It's said that bay and eucalypt leaves shouldn't be composted as they contain a growth-inhibiting enzyme. Pity, because bays grow like weeds here in Tuscany. Anyway, I've never tested by Chris Norton
