Broad Beans
I have planted out my broard beans as they are about 200mm high and nice and strong, but when i planted them out 60% are lying on the ground have i done something wrong or will they come round? Did you acclimatise them first? Maybe they are a bit by Dicky Dirt

Hi all, can anyone advise me on useing wood ash, i have a few buckets of good quality ash and the coming year for the allotment is just  the basic vegetables, i know not to use it on shrubs  but are there any common veg that dont like it im growing by Alan4711

Runner/Dwarf Beans
of rain here . stuff growing in front of my eyes . but windy  Thank you for your answers, I will put them out tomorrow. My runner beans are still in pots indoors(unheated shed) and are about 12" tall now (from pot to leaf) and leggy. Can they be planted by John King

Is it warm enough ?
Is it finally OK to start any vegs outside??? depends on what your growing really, carrots,lettuce,spinach,parsnips will grow if the ground has warmed up to about 12 degrees. veg like onions, peas, potatoes can be put down from march but you need by light42

Awww, it was the same for my sister gardening in Edmonton in Canada, James. It was amazing how much they could grow in their very short three months without snow and freezing weather. And the lack of flavour in the veg. they could grow by happymarion

. at horticultural shows as it was a forcing house! Your trial would be interesting but not wise as , when your crop takes goodness out of the soil you must replace it. Better to give the tomatoes a rest for a year(grow them outside) and grow beans whose nodules by happymarion

Beans not germinating/being eaten
.  If I get results I will grow them on a bit in pots in the greenhouse before planting them out I think, just to help them stand a chance against the pests. Fingers crossed for my beans & everyone elses!  Termination, Germination, it's all the same to me by Lokelani

it Verd. I expect it also depends how much you grow and what your own conditions are. Tomatoes are better inside here because of our weather but I've not really had issues with pests....so far  I have grown summer savory this year - supposed to deter black by Verdun

Using polystyrene worms in containers
.  I'm planning on putting a wigwam of 3 or 4 canes in it and growing runner beans and a few sweet peas for pollinators.  Do you think those plants will need a full pot of compost, or could I put a layer of polystyrene worms in the bottom?  I don't want by happycottontail
