pragmatic about it. Do you feed birds by any chance? The reason that I'm asking is that spilled bird food can attract rats as an easy source of food. I fear it is a rat; one year my beetroot did not grow; the neighbours who were watering the garden when I by daydaisy

veg suitable for shade.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what, if any, vegetables or fruit are suitable for a shady area? Not many cope well with shade but salads don't lik eto be baked so I grow min in the shadiest bed although it does get full sun around the summer by Sue H

what's people in the north west growing at the moment.
i got me onion's started and  thinking about starting me beetroot off . an other suggestions . am in the north east, have garlic and shallots planted out I am in the Midlands and have my onions, shallots and garlic planted Im new by Drlloyd

Last years potatoes in May
different take on this as several of mine from last year are now growing strongly up through my parsnips and beetroot. A real pain. Volunteers are such a pain aren't they. Hope one can eat them as we are still eating our way through the last sack of Second by J82

Seeds not growing
then about 10 days after that we had about 6 inches of snow which I cleared off the fleece.  My question is will these seeds grow now and if not will it be ok just to leave them in the soil. and re-plant them. I planted carrots, beetroot, parsnip . thanks by flowergirl4

Talkback: Leaf miners
in their wake. Every year I swear I am going to resort to chemicals...........but I never do! I hate them as they devastate my beetroot (I prefer to eat the leaves than the root). I don't think you can stop leaf miners with chemicals, as they live inside by happymarion

Sowing in wet conditions or wait?
