Talkback: Growing veg in containers
that cold weather - a friend cut it in half for me and now I am growing potatoes in the 2 halves. I have several old recycling boxes in which I am growing Meteor peas, sugar snap peas, beetroot, garlic and Swiss Chard. 2 of the deeper swing top kitchen bins by chutneyhunter

soil tootsietim. Please forgive this next question ( I'm cringing to ask as I must sound rather dim) but is a stem corm something that grows under the soil, like beetroot does? No, it grews above the soil on the stem.  The stem just swells as the plant by Tootles

FEED UP WITH THIS WEATHER

Growing veg with little space
Can I realistically grow much in containers? I don't have much luck with tomatoes so thought I would stick to salad leaves etc, but also love carrots, cucumber, onions, sweet peppers, courgettes and beetroot in particular. I've bought varieties by laarobbins

, brassicas in a seed bed. Carrots, out in the garden, under a cold frame that will cover a small and short rowed patch.  Beetroot, where you want to grow them , and in a well conditioned soil. I don't worry too much about the 'fertilizer' stuff in the soil by alan bridges

I give up!
I've got a big, L-shaped, 80cm deep raised bed I built two years ago in my small back yard, specially to grow vegetables.  It has a 2-storey house to the south, and walls all round, so in winter it gets no sun, but in summer is a suntrap, so I also by francesmhendry
