I'm not normally a veg grower but am planning to grow carrots in tubs with my little grandaughter this year.  I know that in the ground carrots don't like newly manured soil, but what would be the best growing medium to put them in?  I produce my by rutlandbelle

ideas for a container on a SW facing wall
Hi there, I am looking for some ideas for what to put in a lovely wooden trelis planter box I have just been given. I wanted to place in on a SW facing wall, under my kitchen window, (so climb must be no higher than 3ft). Hopefully year round by debanslow

Plants for complete shaded areas
of the day. Sarcococca hookeriana (Christmas Box) also do well in shaded areas - they're slow growers and are highly scented ground covering plants  Helleborous Niger (christmas rose) is a rather easy to grow, shade loving plant.. Lamium will do well in shade by chippysteve1

heap. You can also buy a box of live bumblebees for the home garden now called a Beepol box. To suggest using Japanese knotweed for bee hotels is very risky and ill advised. Cutting knotweed canes in the summer while they're still growing is likely by rogerdennis

evergreen and fuchsia cutting
I had one small success with cuttings this year. 5 out of 7 box cuttings have rooted. Have I left it too late to take some from my variegated box or any other evergreen? If so whats the technique and the looking after regime? Also I bought a fuchsia by nutcutlet

circular formal raised bed what centre piece
and budget. Not a weeping willow. Far, far too big. What about a standard (not a rose) I've just planted a standard holly 'Blue Angel' that has loads of berries and would complement your box.http://www.jparkers.co.uk/plant-0001847/holly-blue-angel/ You do by blackest
