Talkback: Trees for small gardens
the person about the 30m tree - WOW, that's HUGE!! Another small tree that we planted a year ago in our North-West facing garden on top of a very windy hill is the Caragana arborescens or Siberian Pea Tree. The description says that it "can grow up to 6 by Willowtree

What did you do in your garden today?
What did we all do in our gardens today....? I arranged some pots on my patio - box balls, Purissima tulips, Birma daffs & Barret Browning daffs (click on photos to enlarge)...     and placed two barrel planters with Albert Heiin tulips by LeadFarmer

of growing it?  Particularly I would like to know if it is prone to disease as the rose I want it to replace has suffered quite badly with blackspot and greenfly and I would like to have something more disease resistant. Gorgeous rose, absolutely beautiful by Warburton Pike

of a tiny plot is to grow smaller plants. It does not take many square metres to grow hundreds of species of alpines. The square foot way of growing vegetables is also a solution. Or invade the house like I have. Very seldom does the conservatory get by happymarion

Try again Stipa
do it in spring, you risk snipping off the tips of the new growth.  Unlike most plants, grasses grow from the base rather than the tips, so if you damage the tips, they will die-back a little and will have green shoots with brown tips which would look by Cia

searching for a name
look but can't quite find one. The RHS Plant finder is very useful, here: RHS Plant FinderFor example, entering 'Doris' in the search box finds 40-odd plants (including numerous Dianthus): Chetwyn Doris, Doris, Doris Allwood, Doris Elite, Doris Galbally by diggingdoris

one , replant the new and keep it pruned how you want it.  This plant makes a lovely neat hedge which looks very like Box but grows much faster, it can also be used to cut into Topiary if you like it.  It is very tolerant and easy going but Baggen by Katy2
