Brassica Netting
As a beginer it was my first year growing Kale, broccoli etc. I started them off in plugs and planted them out in a raised bed in May. 2 days later there were just a few stalks left. After falsely accusing the slugs I realised it was birds (probably by Jammy2

Sprouting Brocoli.
I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem or could someone tell me why it happens and how to prevent it? I would really love to resolve this problem as I and my family enjoy brocoli and would really like to have a successful growing season by Gerry5

Too late to plant more seeds?
as soon as we get some decent growing weather.  Keep your green fingers crossed! Parsnips can still be resown. Broccoli, maybe ! Wonderful thanks both. (seed packet says April/May so thought it would be too late.) Bear in mind parsnips are notoriously long by AJB

cooked but turn green. Hi Pam and Dave,The thing is with purple sprouting broccoli is that you grow it for one summer until it's enormous, Stake it to see it through windy autumn, then it sits there all spring and produces masses of edible shoots as soon by Pam

Events
events where you can do plant swaps as I have plenty of broccoli but no success with Leeks for example, so would like to get swapping.   Also as someone who has just started growing fruit and veg I would like to hear from any gardening clubs on the Island by greenhousesonline_biz

rotten potatoes
patch of ground. Brassicas i.e cauli, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, swede. I'd be tempted to have a good dig around or you could end with more potatoes growing. A good acronym for remember crop succession is 'People Like Bunches Of Roses', Potatoes by wendy 8

veg suitable for shade.
. brassicas and spinach, lettuce and it's varients will do ok, but not their best, leeks again will do ok. You can grow lettuces and salad leaves, leafy veg such as spinach, chard, broccoli and brussels sprouts, and peas and beans. But not in full shade, OK by Sue H

Talkback: Growing kale
broccoli has only got lots of long thin spindly shoots on after picking the main head> I'm trying Nero di Toscano for the first time, too. But I'm growing Pentland Brig as well, as I love the sprouting shoots that sre like broccoli. Two for the price by grannyanne
