Clayey soil
well in clay, particularly cabbages and brussels. Don't bother with carrots until the soil has been improved for a couple of years, they just won't grow well from my experience I too have clay soil.  I have found peas seem to do really well. by METAL MAN GARDENER

rotten potatoes
patch of ground. Brassicas i.e cauli,cabbage,sprouts,broccoli,swede. I'd be tempted to have a good dig around or you could end with more potatoes growing. A good acronym for remember crop succession is 'People Like Bunches Of Roses', Potatoes by wendy 8

using space
to finish picking before the beans block the sun? I thought greyhound cabbage or sweet corn to grow up through. or pumpkin? Lettuce and radishes will crop quickly and not mind shade. Beetroot and chad are fairly quick growing. You might get golf ball by gardening Rev

I am surprised to read that you only saw your first cabbage white this month, as I have had several since early May. I have still had the odd one or two despite the torrential rain in the past few weeks. Keep up the good work your articles by Paul Hall
