to do to your garden is to dig the bits you are going to use so its not all hard work.And remove any weed roots.And grow spuds and cabbage they will brake down the soil for you. by meg.hopkins@yah

Brussels sprouts
It;s my first attempt at growing Brussels sprouts and they're just not growing.  Should i water & feed them through the winter? Don't feed or water-the rain does that for you and there should be enough goodness in the ground When did you plant by Val8

p.s i only grow veg turnips cabbage/sprouts/broc/caulie/punkings/leeks Brassicas do not like newly manured ground. Peas/ beans etc do. Don't plant carrots or parsnips there. They will all split into many fingers. Only plant them in beds that have by shaunandnicola

patch, it's my first year growing, exactly how fine a mesh of net would be advisable as I don't want all the effort to go to waste....? this is the first year on my allotment. i done sprouts and cabbages my sprouts have blown the are not little balls by joey northwood allotments liverpool

infestation of cabbage whites and caterpillers, is this connected in anyway Im ben and im 13 i want to know if anyone has any advice on growing sprouts, im going to grow them this year. Im in the same boat, no sprouts. When can I sow the seeds for next year by gaynorthegardener

Butterflies
grow other brassicas for them to eat instead - that way you get both butterflies and cabbages. At the very least if you feed the caterpillars etc to the birds you are  helping the birds. Hope Kitty4 can photograph  (to scale maybe) her caterpillars by Kitty4
