Cabbage 'Greyhound'
Have a few 'Greyhound' cabbage and the centres all look like this one in the photo.  I'm wondering if it's a fungus and if I will lose them?  Does anyone know what this is and what I should do?      I grow Greyhounds every year and if I didn't know by yarrow2

What veg and salad can be grown in clay-flint-chalk soil?
Thank you for the advice on indoors growing. Now the time for 'being brave'. Have been a bit disappointed by efforts in recent years to grow veg and salad outdoors. Cabbages, swedes and other veg have all failed in a horrible clay flinty soil by Bob Flowerjuice

Talkback: Top of the veg
Last summer I tried to grow carrots for the first time. I grew them in a large plant pot on the path, they grew to about finger size and then something upturned the pot and ate them but left their tops. Could it have been a badger as the pot was too by Karl W

Early sowing
I have recently sown some Greyhound cabbage seeds in single modules of a polystyrene tray which I placed on a heated tray. I used multi-purpose compost. The idea was to have small plants which could be potted on individually rather than the random by gatehill
