Talkback: Growing brassicas
for keeping them out. I am growing broccoli, peas, sprouts, carrots & lettuce - they are all in pots of varying sizes and so far they are all healthy with not a slug in sight - though I have put copper tape round the pots to deter them. Heligan Gardens by Eve from Westerham Kent

Is there anything that can go in now for an autumn crop ?
. Not encouraging for next year planning is it?. I start my Chinese cabbages now as any sooner and they bolt.  Watch out for cabbage white butterfly though as they will love them - I fleece all my veg which doesn't need pollinating.  As the cabbages grow, tie them by blueberry77

New garden, new area, growing problems
distorted in any way?  No, there is no distortion in the leaves of any plants.  For instance, the peas, which have grown pods but have no peas within them.  The best-growing plants, if I can put it that way, are the cabbages and cauliflower, which by Dudley Horler

Talkback: Slugs and hedgehogs
. The first week we started this we collected and disposed of over 100 slugs! This idea was suggested by a nursery that grows Hosta's. I can confirm that our Hosta's and bedding plants have remained in full contact with their leaves since the start of nightly by Di Barker

What is this plant and how can I stop it dying?
here 4 years and it doesn't seem to be growing tall like a tree. Could it be something else? I think it's only certain varieties that grow taller, such as the cabbage tree.  I know mum had a red one (but lost it the year before last over the winter by Stephanie Sherwin
