Talkback: Growing camellias

Conifer mulch
I now garden on heavy clay, topped with 18" -24"of topsoil. The clay is acid - everyone else around grows beautiful Camellias and rhododendrons - but the topsoil is quite different, the Camellias I have here are usually on the yellow side. I by Wic

Rubble in the border
cannot grow Camellias here in much of the garden as the soil is full of lime-mortar and that definitley affects the leaves of any Camellia which we have planyed. I would agree with Dove about filling the bed with Ericaceous compost though. Camellias do by CarmenM

this year. I also feed twice yearly with Sequestrine of Iron. Most camellias grow happily in large pots of ericaceous compost, but should do equally well in the garden. Why do buds drop in spring? This is due to water shortage last summer and autumn by Starlight

Flower free camelia
in the current RHS magazine about growing camellias in pots. Thanks for your comments. Pretty sure I haven't over fed it though and I read they don't need pruning.It's about 2 -3 feet high. Its not a plant that needs yearly pruning, only when its reachd your by lilly3

Moving a Camellia plant

hi i have aarmandii apple blossom clematis planted last october growing like mad but not one flower i thought it would flower in spring, and same with the snow ball plant dont know real name but its been in 2 yrs and grows every year well by red john

Protecting container plants in Winter
it got to minus 15. Maybe I'll bubble wrap just to protect the pots! Hiya Supernoodle. Camellia Debbie hardy, no need to protect. Camellia Alba is bit different. The white flowers are badly affected by frost....they look terrible and brown badly by Supernoodle
